The mode of action is that the high charge density of the polymer (approximately 1800 milliequivalents [meq]/100 g of polymer) results in sequestration of polyvalent metal cations in soil solution, disrupting and delaying normal P fixation reactions, resulting in extended availability of highly water-soluble ammonium and calcium phosphates. Application of calcium salts may protect vines from fluoride damage. Potassium nitrate provides 44 percent potassium.
